This year the SHARP Conference was held on Sept 21 & 22, in Prince George and was a roaring success. Over 130 delegates from across the Local attended the two-day event, and the theme this year was, "Sharpen Your Safety Senses". The Keynote speakers were exceptional and interacted with the delegates throughout.
The Presenter Candace Carnahan related her own experiences as a young worker; which really resonated with the delegates, "If You See Something; Say Something". She was injured in a Pulp Mill because of those whom knew better allowed her to perform an action that was both unsafe and dangerous, and never approached her. The results of the incident were not only life changing for Candace, but also was life changing for her family, and co-workers.
The other Presenters were Eldeen Pozniak, Karen Bowman, Director of Drop It And Drive (DIAD) Program and the Closing Presenter was Michael Kerr. Michael interacted with the delegates on building a safety-first culture and managing stress, with his use of humor to get the message out. The Delegates that attended this year were USW Members, Line Forman, Human Resources and Management from our operations throughout the Local.
