USW Local 1-424 Delegated Meeting Well Attended

Over 120 USW delegates from across the boundaries of the local attended this year’s meeting. Election of delegates was held for conferences taking place over the next year, also resolutions and discussion over the next set of Forest Industry negotiations. The Wage and Contract Conference will start on the 25th of April in Kamloops BC. There are 20 elected delegates attending this conference which will set the stage for this year’s negotiations.

Delegates also heard from the President of the BC Federation of Labour Jim Sinclair, as he laid out just how important this election is to working people across this province, and what the Liberals have done over the past 12 years with cut backs to education, healthcare and forest policy’s while adding over 30 billion to the BC debt load.

Delegates were given the opportunity to meet NDP candidates Bobby Deepak Prince George/ Mackenzie, Sherry Ogasawara, Prince George/ Valemont, Sussanne Skidmore Hewlett, Nechako Lakes and Duncan Barnett, Cariboo North. The candidates are charged up and thankful for all the support while they continue working hard to win this election for working people and their families in BC.

As BC Federation president Jim Sinclair stated; ’’This election is about building a province that respects the contribution of working people at all levels and builds on the skills and training that will allow British Columbians the ability to fill the family, supporting jobs our industries need today and in the future. Skilled workers are not created by spending 16 million on TV ads promoting the liberal party but that’s what happened, because they have no real vision or realistic plan for BC.
